At first I was like, I don't want to watch this film at all, because of Angelina Jolie's reputation. Just don't really like her, neither do I like her roles.
Anyway, somehow I just hit the play button and started watching it, quite interesting at the beginning,
The torture got me, I could not imagine drinking what looked like gasoline.
She's Evelyn Salt, a CIA operative, working inside an oil company (clever cover up?) with her buddy Ted Winter (Liev Schreiber) until she gets accused of being a Russian spy who is plotting to kill the president of Russia. Now that really put a twist I was not expecting at all.
Here's where the whole Angelina Jolie superwoman thing starts to unfold.
After she's put in a room until they can decide how to go about interrogating her she escapes and the pursuit to catch her does not lack the action packed scenes typical of Hollywood stunt artists.
Nonetheless, she continues with her superwoman role throughout the film but the rest of the story seems to help ignore the annoyance of this.
She manages to escape and makes her way up to New York (she was in Washington) where she is to carry out her plans at the funeral
of the late United States vice-president.
And on goes Salt with yet more twists to come, which I was not expecting.
Very clever ones, reminiscent of "24".
By the end of the movie I was actually left wanting for more, the plot in my opinion was great. But I still would have preferred to have seen a guy play the role but can understand how a woman would fit perfectly into the role.
However, the "unbelievable" action scenes could have been made a little more "believable" and not so over the top.
Conservative Film?
Not so much, you will not be able to distinguish the political message in this film, but these days any film that is NOT LIBERAL, should be a good film, right?
Sexuality
I kept my hand on the fast forward button, just waiting for the nude or sex scene everyone has come to expect from Jolie and was pleasantly surprised at the lack of sexual references and innuendo in this film.
That alone was a big plus for me, and proves that a great movie can be made without the "dirty" scenes.
Salt Movie Language
There's few curse words but a mature adult should have no problem with them.
Without a doubt SALT is perhaps one of the best (and may be the cleanest) movies Jolie has made.
